World Banknote Auctions Offers Stunning Collection of Jamaican Notes Certified by PMG

Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) has certified more than 400 notes from what is regarded as the most advanced collection of Jamaican banknotes of the Sterling era: the Isabella Chang Fong & Ian Marshall Collection of Jamaican Banknotes. These notes, most of which are Specimens, Proofs and Printer's Designs, offer a unique window into the history of Jamaican paper money. They are being offered by World Banknote Auctions in a sale scheduled for November 3, 2023; bidding is already underway.

One of the top lots in the auction is a Jamaica, Treasury 1918 10/- Shillings graded PMG 12 Fine (lot 8005). The note is distinguished by its exceptionally rare signature of C.C. Anderson. According to Marshall, this was the final addition to their collection, one that took 30 years to find. This note has an estimate of $8,000 to $12,000.

Another top item in the auction is a Jamaica, Bank of Jamaica 1960 £5 graded PMG 65 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 8218). This note has a Gothic Serial number and the signature of Stanley Walden Payton. Only 15 examples of Pick# 52a are recorded in the PMG Population Report, with a mere three finer than this. This seldom-seen note has an estimate of $8,000 to $12,000.

The earliest note in the auction is a Jamaica ND (ca. 1820) £10 Proof graded PMG 63 Choice Uncirculated (lot 8229), with an estimate of $4,000 to $6,000. The collection runs through the 1960s, when Jamaica gained its independence and switched to a new currency, the Jamaican Dollar.

• a Jamaica, Central Bank ND (ca. 1960s) 10/- Shillings Front Printer's Model and Back Printer's Model graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated and PMG 63 Choice Uncirculated, respectively (lot 8174), with an estimate of $8,000 to $12,000
• a Jamaica, Government of Jamaica 1918 5/- Shillings Front Artist's Rendition and Back Artist's Rendition certified as genuine by PMG (lot 8014), with an estimate of $6,000 to $8,000
• a Jamaica, Government of Jamaica 1918 10/- Shillings Front Artist's Rendition and Back Artist's Rendition certified as genuine by PMG (lot 8015), with an estimate of $6,000 to $8,000
• a Jamaica, Government of Jamaica 1942 £5 Specimen graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (lot 8134), with an estimate of $5,000 to $7,500
• a Jamaica, Colonial Bank ND (1907-12) £1 Specimen graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (lot 8366), with an estimate of $5,000 to $7,500
• a Jamaica, Colonial Bank ND (1907) £5 Specimen graded PMG 63 Choice Uncirculated (lot 8367), with an estimate of $5,000 to $7,500
• a Jamaica, Colonial Bank ND (1907) £10 Specimen graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (lot 8368), with an estimate of $5,000 to $7,500
• a Jamaica, Colonial Bank 1917-25 £1 graded PMG 20 Very Fine (lot 8370), with an estimate of $5,000 to $7,500
• a Jamaica, Colonial Bank 1919-25 £10 graded PMG 40 Extremely Fine (lot 8371), with an estimate of $5,000 to $7,500
